Oslo (Norway) November 14, 2014 (SPS) - The representative of the Polisario Front in Norway, Dr. Limam Khalil, was received Thursday at the Labour Party headquarters by the ForeignRelations Secretary, Mari Aaby West.
The Polisario Front representative informed the Norwegian official on the latest developments related the question of Western Sahara and the serious human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara due to the Moroccan systematic repressive policies against Sahrawi citizens since its illegal occupation of Western Sahara in 1975.
It should be recalled that the Norwegian Labour has endorsed a motion, in its congress held in April 2013, on the question of Western Sahara confirming that “Western Sahara is still occupied by Morocco", and stressed the need to expedite finding a just and lasting political solution to the Western Sahara conflict on the basis of respect for the legitimate right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and freedom.
The motion called forincreasing humanitarian support for the Sahrawi refugees, expansion of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include the monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara and the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners.
It also recommended the capitaland Norwegian companies not to invest in Western Sahara. And that Norwegian Labour Party will work to ensure that Norway will recognize the Western Sahara as an independent state, on the basis of international law regarding the recognition." (SPS)
