Advisory Council expresses "deep regret" for delaying implementation of international legitimacy

National Council (Refugee Camps), October 13, 2014 (SPS) – Saharawi Advisory Council has expressed Sunday morning, "deep regret" for delaying implementation of international legitimacy in Western Sahara, criticizing the international community to make Morocco complies with the UN resolutions.

The Advisory Council has also expressed, in a letter sent to the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, extreme resentment for the protracted conflict and the postponing of applying the international legitimacy in Western Sahara.

The letter denounced the failure of the UN to find a final, just and lasting solution to the conflict, which guarantees the Saharawi people their right to self-determination and independence, stressing that "the current situation would not serve the interests of neighbours and the international peace and security".

Drawing the attention of Ban Ki-Moon, the letter bares Spain full responsibility towards Saharawi people, noting that Spain has preferred to be part of the conspiracy, rather than fulfilling its historical commitments, through organizing referendum on self-determination in accordance with the UN resolutions.

It also highlighted repression and "constant" abuses of human rights committed by Moroccan occupying forces against innocent Saharawis, the latest of which was Saharawi political prisoner martyr Hassana El Ouali, confirming that Kingdom of Morocco has been consistently since 1991, the date of the cease-fire, creating obstacles to block international efforts to implement the settlement plan which was approved by the UN Security Council.

The Advisory Council pointed that Morocco is imposing media blackout on the occupied territories, and prevents independent observers from visiting the region. (SPS)
