Mehbas (Liberated Territories), September 20, 2014 (SPS) - A landmine explosion hit a four-wheel drive vehicle carrying 5 members of the Sahrawi border g uards, in the area of Bukerba, where they were performing their daily duty, resulted in the death of one of them and injuring the other four which required transferring them to the hospital in Tindouf, reported the Sahrawi Association of Mines Victims in a statement Saturday.

The statement regretted “the recurrence of such incidents since the cease-fire declared by the United Nations claiming many lives of Sahrawis along the wall of the Moroccan military wall of shame dividing Western Sahara and separating its people”.

The Sahrawi organization demanded in its statement the international community to implement the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of the use of this destruction and put pressure on the Moroccan regime to sign this treaty and to cooperate in the removal of 7 million landmines in Western Sahara to avoid claiming more innocent lives.
