Council of Ministers condemns Moroccan continued obstruction to settlement efforts

Submitted on

Chahid Al Hafed, 17 Sept, 2014 (SPS)- The Council of Ministers has condemned Tuesday evening the Moroccan continued obstruction to the settlement efforts, stressing that the only solution to the conflict is through enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.

The council of Ministers asked, in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held Tuesday, the United Nations to take a full responsibility in accelerating decolonization of Western Sahara.

The communiqué called for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, and the creation of a UN mechanism to protect, monitor and report on human rights in Western Sahara.

Concerning the situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and southern Morocco, the Council hailed the resistance of the Saharawi heroes of the independence uprising, expressing "strong condemnation" to the repression committed by Moroccan occupying forces against the Saharawis.
