Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Sept 8, 2014 (SPS) - Staff of the Saharawi People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) has recalled that the primary function of the United Nations (UN) is still that of the decolonization of Western Sahara, through a free and impartial referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people.

In a statement issued at the end of its meeting held Sunday, Staff of the Saharawi Army said: “the UN remains responsible, until the decolonization of Western Sahara is achieved,” reaffirming the SPLA’s “attachment” to retrieve sovereignty over the national terrain of the Saharawi Republic (SADR).

Chaired by the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the meeting highlighted the SPLA’s willingness to face any current or future threat.

It also asked the international community to “urgently intervene” to ensure the protection for the Saharawi people, lift up the blockade, stop Morocco’s plunder of Saharawi natural resources and free all the Saharawi political prisoners. (SPS)
