Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), July 26, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar hailed Saturday Cuba’s position of solidarity with the liberation movements around the world, valuing its “constant support” to the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence.

In a speech delivered during the closing of solidarity days with the Cuban Revolution, held from 23rd to 26th July 2014 in the Saharawi refugee camps, PM Abdelkader Taleb Omar said that Cuba has kept defending and pleading for the right of oppressed peoples to self-determination, freedom and independence, adding that the Cuban Revolution was an inspiring one for all mankind.

“The anniversary of the outbreak of the Cuban Revolution constitutes a historic event not only for the people and the Government of the Republic of Cuba, but also for the Saharawi people and all peoples of the world who are fighting for human rights, dignity and freedom,” stated Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar.

He took this occasion to express recognition and gratitude of the Saharawi Republic and Polisario Front to the Republic of Cuba for its support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.

He, therefore, thanked Cuba for hosting a group of Saharawi students, and for sending a large number of medical missions to the Saharawi refugee camps.

A week of solidarity with the Cuban people has been organized in the period from 23rd to 26th July 2014 in the Saharawi people on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the Revolution in Cuba.

On 26th July 1953, a group of Cuban revolutionaries, led by Fidel Castro, attacked the Moncada Army Barracks, in the first spark of the Cuban Revolution which would later oust the regime of the dictator Fulgencio Batista. (SPS)
