Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), July 23, 2014 (SPS) - The Frente Polisario has expressed condemnation to the negative stance taken by Morocco in continuing to thwart the negotiations and shuttle tours undertaken by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Ambassador Christopher Ross.

In a statement issued at the end of a meeting of its bureau on Wednesday, the Frente Polisario renewed willingness to continue cooperating with the international community in order to speed up the exercise by the Saharawi of their legitimate right to self-determination and independence.

It called upon the UN to assume responsibility vis-à-vis the decolonization of Western Sahara, asking the international community to act in favour of ending Morocco’s illegal occupation and its flagrant human rights violations against the Saharawi people.

It also stressed the end for the international community to ensure that an independent international observance been established in occupied Western Sahara and that the systematic pillage of the territory’s natural resources been halted.

The statement denounced Morocco’s failed attempts, tendentious media propaganda and psychological warfare aimed at targeting the strong unity and achievements of the Saharawi people.

Bureau of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat, on other hand, hailed the resistance of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories, southern Moroccan, university sites and inside Moroccan prisons, emphasizing the need to continue the national and international campaign for the release of Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in Moroccan jails.

The statement denounced the inhumane treatment these prisoners are subject to, denouncing media and security blockade imposed by Moroccan occupying authorities over the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
