President of Republic receives ex-UN special representative for Western Sahara

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), July 16, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz received Wednesday Mr. Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber of Germany, special representative of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara and Head of MINURSO, who is in a farewell visit to the Saharawi refugee camps from Tuesday.


The talks focused on the main task of the MINURSO which is to organize the referendum in Western Sahara and implement UN resolutions on decolonization, Saharawi Coordinator with the MINURSO Mr. Mhamed Khaddad told SPS.


The UN official also held similar talks with the Secretary of State for Documentation and Security Mr. Brahim Mohamed Mahmud focusing on the security situation in Libya and Mali and its consequences on the region as a whole, added the same source.


Mhamed Khaddad reiterated the need for the UN to take its responsibilities with regard to the respect for human rights in Western Sahara, calling for opening the occupied territories of Western Sahara before international organizations.


Responding to a question about on Morocco’s spying on phone calls of the MINRSO staff in the occupied cities of El Aaiun and Smara, the UN envoy stressed on the neutral role should be played by the United Nations in resolving conflicts.


Mr. Weisbrod-Weber, moreover, met with Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, Minister of Defense Mr. Mohamed Lamine Bouhali and the Saharawi Coordinator with the MINURSO Mr. Mhamed Khaddad. (SPS)
