Brussels, May 14, 2014 (SPS) - The Council of Europe is preparing a resolution questioning Morocco, on a political settlement to the conflict in Western Sahara, which will be presented to its Parliamentary Assembly’s plenary session scheduled for June 23-27 2014 in Strasbourg.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Political Affairs Committee of the Assembly, which will prepare the resolution, called on the parties to the conflict, Morocco and Polisario Front, to show “realism and a spirit of compromise to move forward in the negotiations.”
It also emphasized the need to continue negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations to achieve a political solution to the conflict of Western Sahara.
The Commission, on other hand, expressed concern over a number of violations of the human rights in Western Sahara. (SPS)
