President of Republic congratulates new President-elect of Panama

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), May 6, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has felicitated the new President-elect of Panama Mr. Juan Carlos Varela, renewing the Saharawi Republic’s willingness to strengthen ties with the Republic of Panama.


In a letter sent to Mr. Varela following his victory in the presidential elections that took place Sunday, the Saharawi President hailed the democratic and tolerant atmosphere characterized these elections, describing it as “historic victory and achievement” for the Republic of Panama.


“As you know, the Republic of Panama has been since the 1970s an icon of solidarity and commitment to just cause across the world. It was the first state to recognize the Saharawi Republic (SADR),” writes President Mohamed Abdelaziz in his letter to the new President-elect of Panama.


He also reiterated willingness to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation, which has been on the ground since Varela’s assuming to the posts of the vice-president and foreign affairs minister of Panama.


Mr. Varela has won the presidential election in Panama with almost 40% of the votes.


According to provisions of the Panama’s constitution, he will swear in as a president of Panama on July. (SPS)
