Kigali, April 10, 2014 (SPS) - Non-resident ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Rwanda Mr. Habib Boukhreis paid Wedensday a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Rwanda, Hon. MUKABALISA Donatille.

The discussions focused on the latest developments on the question of Western Sahara, including the next meeting of the Security Council and the need to task the MINURSO with human rights monitoring in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

“I am happy to meet the Speaker, we discussed on how this Country, as member of United Nations Security Council, can help us in order to push for independence of our country through referendum, as you know the Morocco block this process,”said the Saharawi ambassador, quoted by the website of the Rwandan Parliament.

Mrs. Donatille, for her part, reaffirmed the unchanging position of her country vis-à- vis the just cause of the Saharawi people saying: “our country maintains the position of the African Union and we opt for the independence of the Republic of Western Sahara, but through dialogue without any confrontation.”

The meeting was also attended from the Rwandan side by Mrs. Mr Mukama Abbas, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Ambassador Zeno Mutimura, chairman of the foreign affairs, cooperation and security’s committee. (SPS)
