Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), April 3, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi Mine Actions Coordination Office (SMACO) organized today morning, Thursday, a seminar about the risks and dangers of landmines, on the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness, observed on April 4th each year.
The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Saharawi Campaign to Ban Landmines (SCBL), Saharawi Association of Landmine Victims (ASAVIM) and Action on Armed Violence (AOAV).
Members of the Saharawis government, representatives of civil society organizations and a representative from the UNICEF attended the seminar.
Addressing the audience, ASAVIM’s Chairman Mr. Aziz Haidar held the inetrnational community full responsibility towards the protection of Saharawi civilians from the dangers of mines.
On the margin of this seminar, the Saharawi Campaign to Ban Landmines (SCBL) inaugurated a headquarters.
Awareness Day aims to raise awareness about landmines and progress toward their eradication. (SPS)
