Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), April 3, 2014 (SPS) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek met Thursday’s evening with Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Western Sahara, who visits the Saharawi refugee camps.
The Minister informed Mr. Weisbrod-Weber, also head of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), about the latest developments on the Saharawi issue, especially Morocco’s violations of human rights and its looting of Western Sahara natural resources.
"The MINURSO must fullfill the tasks that was founded for, namely to conduct the referendum in Western Sahara," said Mr. Ould Salek.
In the meantime, he added, the task to monitor and report about human rights in a territory under UN direct responsability must be incorporated to the MINURSO.
Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber held several other meetings. He also had working sessions with both the Saharawis Association of Landmines Victims (ASAVIM) and the Association of Families of Saharawis Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA). (SPS)
