Paris, April 2, 2014 (SPS) - The Slovenian Member of the European Parliament Mr. Ivo Vajgl has noted that “only delegations and individuals who represent the Moroccan official positions have the right to get into the occupied territories of Western Sahara,” in a statement released Monday by Radio France International (RFI).
“It is clear that Moroccan authorities systematically prevent observers to visit the territory to find out the human rights violations, not only inside Morocco but also in the Western Sahara,” said Mr. Vajgl.
MEP Ivo Vajgl indicated that Morocco presents “naive arguments” when comes to the situation of human rights in Western Sahara, of which accusing someone of being either pro-Polisario or pro-Algeria, adding that they put obstacles in the face of all independent observers.
Last year, he recalled, I had planned to visit the Territory along with a delegation of composing parliamentarians from different parties, but we were expelled from Casablanca airport and forced to return to Paris then to Brussels.
It should be recalled that the Moroccan occupying authorities has refused the access into Western Sahara of a delegation of MEPs from several leftist parties (members of the European Parliamentary Intergroup for Western Sahara), which was planning to visit the occupied city of El Aaiun from 9th to 12th April 2014 to assess at first hand the situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
According to agenda of the visit, the MEPs were planning to meet with Saharawi human rights activists, including Ms. Aminatou Haidar .
On 6th March 2013, another delegation of MEPs was expelled from Casablanca airport by Moroccan occupying authorities. (SPS)
