Recent AU commissioners’ visit “enhances” status of Saharawi state, confirms FM

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 19, 2014 (SPS) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek has emphasized that the recent visit by the African Union Commissioner for Political and Social Affairs to the Saharawi refugee camps “will enhance the status of the Sahrawi Republic, both at the African and international level.”


In a statements to SPS, the Minister indicated that this visit has enabled the two officials to see on the ground the leading and unique experience of the Saharawi state in the social, cultural and political domains, adding that they got impressed by the various services provided to the citizens by the Saharawi institutions, despite the difficult conditions and the lack of potentials.


During their visit, the two officials expressed the will of the African Union (AU) to continue to work with the Saharawi state, praising the well-organized life of Saharawi refugees, especially when comes to women promotion as well as the special attention given to the young people and culture.


It should be recalled that the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs Dr. Aisha Abdullahi and the Commissioner for Social Affairs Dr. Mustapha Kaloko had visited the Saharawi refugee camps in the period from 15th to 18th March, 2014. (SPS)
