Nairobi, Jan 6, 2014 (SPS) - An embassy for the Saharawi Republic (SADR) in Kenya opened today, Thursday, in the presence of the Saharawi Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
The opening ceremony was held at Laico Regency Hotel in Nairobi in the presence of Kenyan authorities and civil society representatives, in addition to members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Nairobi.
In a phone call with SPS, the Saharawi Minister Ould Salek said that the opening of an embassy for SADR in Kenya is of great importance, given that Kenya considered one of the major active countries at the level of the African Union alongside with Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Algeria.
The minister is due to hold a press conference later this day in the presence of Kenyan and international media correspondents.
It is noteworthy that Kenya recognizes the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
Kenya has since its independence supported peoples’ struggle for freedom and emancipation.
Nairobi is the fourth capital in the world after New York, Geneva and Vienna that has a UN headquarters. (SPS)
