8th Congress of Saharawi Youth Union: "rekindle" struggle against Moroccan occupation

Submitted on

ALGEIERS, December 29, 2013 (SPS) - Some 150 young representatives of European, African and American organizations will participate, along with 1,000 young Sahrawis, in the 8th Congress of the Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO) scheduled from 29 to 31 December in the province of Aousserd (Saharawi refugee camps).

The meeting is held under the slogan "rekindle the struggle against the Moroccan colonizer to impose independence," UJSARIO’s communication officer Mahfoudh Salama told Algerian Press Service (APS).

Salama expressed the "full determination" of the Sahrawi people, especially the youth, to fight with all its "strength and energy" so as to "gain" independence of the Saharawi territories, whose natural resources are continually and "illegally plundered" by Morocco.

An international conference of solidarity with the Sahrawi youth will be organized on the sidelines of the congress to reaffirm the international community’s support to the "just" cause of the Saharawi people for independence.

This congress is being held at a time when the international community witnesses continuous violations of the Saharawi people’s human rights by Morocco, leading to an unprecedented global mobilization in 2013, which tightens more the noose around the Moroccan government, which is facing harsh criticism, mainly from international NGOs.

On the light of the extent of these violations, several countries, including the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and international NGOs of human rights, severely reprimanded the Moroccan authorities for serious abuses against the Sahrawi people. (SPS)
