Morocco urged by EU to comply with international law

Submitted on

Algiers, Nov 19, 2013 (SPS)- Morocco, held responsible in Charles Tannock’s new report and the resolution of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) for the recurring human rights violations, is urged by the European Union to give explanations on the acts illegally perpetrated in the occupied territories since 1975.

The Tannock report and ENP’s resolution underlined the European community’s concerns on the human rights’ status in Western Sahara by emphasizing the "importance" that EU attaches to the rights of the colonized people.

ENP’s resolution said that the respect of human rights in Western Sahara in addition to the political and economic rights, is an emergency which also concerns "the rights of political prisoners who didn’t have fair trials and who must be released."

Adopted by nearly all the European deputies from different political groups, ENP’s resolution is part of the international law, dismissing, in the same context, the pro-Moroccan lobby in the European Union. (SPS)
