For formalization of reports on human rights violations in Western Sahara

Submitted on

Rome (Italy), November 15, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Coordination of European Committees and Associations for Support of the People of Western Sahara (EUCOCO) Pierre Galand called on, Thursday evening in Rome, the United Nations (UN) to formalize the reports provided by the humanitarian organizations on the violation of human rights in Western Sahara.

Speeking in an inter-parliamentarian meeting "of the friends of Saharwi people," he recommended UN to "formalize the eloquent reports on concrete cases of human rights abuses in the Sahrawi territories provided by credible organizations such as Kennedy Foundation."

Galand said that these reports pointed out the need to expand the prerogatives of the MINURSO (United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara) to enable it "to enforce the respect of human rights in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

Galand announced that reports, provided by world-renowned Spanish forensic scientists on the discovery of mass graves in the occupied Sahrawi territories, will be presented during the 2013 EUCOCO, which will be held Friday and Saturday in Rome. (SPS)
