New York (United Nations), November 13, 2013 (SPS) - Algeria was elected Tuesday at the UN Human Rights Council, of which members are elected by the UN’s General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly elected 14 new members of the Council of Human Rights for 2014-2016.
Created in 2006, the Council of Human Rights is composed of 47 members of which the seats are divided into five regional groups (Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latine America, Caribbean and Western Europe with North America).
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra evoked last September before the UN Algeria’s candidacy for membership of the Council of Human Rights, and of which the candidacy was submitted in February 2012. (SPS)
