Brussels, November 4, 2013 (SPS) - More than 350 participants are expected to attend the International Conference to support the Saharawi people to be held from November 15 to 17 in Rome (Italy), Pierre Gallant President of the Coordination of European Committees and Associations to Support the Saharawi People announced Monday.
"The Italian capital will host from November 15 to 17 an international conference to support the struggle for the independence of Western Sahara. More than 350 participants will take part in this conference, including the European Parliament, representatives of African countries and Latin America," said Gallant.
Several MEPs, representatives of civil society in Africa, Algeria and Nigeria, as well as representatives of the African Union and the countries of Latin America, including Chile, will take part in this international meeting to support the cause of the Saharawi people, he added.
The meeting comes in a "special" environment, said Galant marked, he said, by the "insistent" request for the extension of the mandate of the UN Mission for the organization of a referendum self-determination (MINURSO) to monitor and protect human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
