Bir Lehlu (Liberated Territories), 26 October 2013 (SPS) – Mr Mohamed Abdelaziz, President of SADR, Secretary General of POLISARIO Front, has demanded the United Nations to assume its responsibilities in making sure that the saharawi enjoy their legal rights of expression, assembly, peaceful demonstration and free communication with the MINURSO, human rights organizations, reporters and independent journalists, in a letter to Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon.

‘It’s a dangerous and deteriorating situation that requires the urgent intervention of the international community to immediately stop the actions of oppression, breaking into houses and shops, blockade and restrictions’, the president of the republic said in his letter.

‘It is unfortunate and shameful that such colonial practices are being carried out openly, with the presence of the Unite Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, and during the presence of the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General and his special representative, in an international zone under immediate responsibility of the United Nations until it is decolonized by granting its people its inalienable right on self-determination and independence’, the president added.

He  also drew the attention to the ‘unbearable’ situation of the Saharawi unarmed civilians, and demanded an urgent intervention to halt the ‘flagrant’ injustice, against them for demanding peacefully the implementation of the UN charter and its resolutions that grant the colonized peoples their right on self-determination and independence, through a democratic, free and fair referendum.

He reaffirmed the ‘pressing and urgent’ need to establish a United Nation mechanism that will enable MINURSO to protect, monitor and report on human rights in Western Sahara, to lift the blockade imposed on the Saharawi occupied territories and to immediately withdraw all the formations of Moroccan oppression forces, uniformed and plain-clothed, from the neighborhoods and streets of its cities.

He asked for the release of all the Saharawi political prisoners, disclosure of the fate of the Saharawi disappeared with the Moroccan state, dismantlement of the Moroccan occupation’s isolation wall and put an end to Morocco’s actions of plundering Saharawi natural resources.

It should be recalled that Saharawi citizens in El Aaiun and Smara occupied cities took to the streets in peaceful demonstrations demanding elementary freedoms, the release of political prisoners and the organization of a referendum of self-determination for the Saharawi people, during the recent of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara Mr. Christopher Ross to the occupied territories of Western sahara.

But Moroccan occupation authorities mobilized huge numbers of different formations of its forces, including the police, the army, the gendarmerie, the rapid intervention forces and the auxiliary forces, uniformed and plain-clothed, to besiege neighborhoods, streets and houses, and to attack unarmed civilians with blind brutality, using sticks and batons, stones, kicking and beating, tear gas and hunting them with cars, water cannons and bladed weapons, leaving a large number of casualties.

The president of the republic also sent letters concerning the same topic to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, nafvi Pillay, and President of the African Union Commission Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.(SPS)
