London, Sept 28, 2013 (SPS) - The British Non-Governmental Organization “Adala UK” has called for an independent investigation into the death the Martyr Shin Rashid Ould Al-Mamoun, adding that those responsible should be brought to justice, in a statement published Friday.

The British NGO said that this attack by Moroccan forces on Saharawi citizens in the city of Asa (Southern Morrocco) “was an attempt to put down a peaceful demonstration.”

“The attack included the use of rubber bullets and teargas (methods which contravene international law) as well as forced entry into homes in search of young Saharawis,” underlined the statement.

“This attack resulted in the death of the young Saharawi Shin Rashid who was hit by a rubber bullet fired by the Moroccan auxiliary forces. According to witnesses at the scene, Rashid was hit at chest height by a bullet,” it added.

Adala UK denounced these serious human rights violations and illegal forced entries and the use of violence against peaceful protesters, expressing “complete solidarity” with the family of the victim.

It, therefore, called for the release of all those detained following this peaceful protest, appealing to UN Security Council to intervene to establish a mechanism to protect human rights in Western Sahara so to guarantee that abuses of this nature are not repeated again. (SPS)
