Abuja, August 06,2013 (SPS)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Mohamed Nordin, has reiterated on Monday " Nigeria’s unconditional support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the resolutions of African Union and the United Nations and the principles of international law on decolonization ".
"Nigeria's position stems from its long history of supporting the causes of liberation and emancipation of the peoples of Africa, since its independence in 1960," said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Mohamed Nordin during a reception of the Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic in Abuja, Obi Bouchraya Bachir.
The Nigerian foreign minister expressed “Nigeria’s deep concern regarding the successive reports on the deteriorating human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara." "The world cannot remain indifferent to the situation," he said.
On his part, Ambassador Obi Bochraya Bachir informed the Nigerian Minister on the UN efforts to impose independent international mechanisms for the protection of the Saharawi population under Moroccan occupation.
The diplomat thanked Nigeria, on behalf of the Government and people of the Sahrawi Republic, “for its firm position in support of the Saharawi people in their just struggle for freedom and national independence". (SPS)
