Organization of Solidarity Conference with UGTSARIO next October in Nigeria

Abuja, August 01,2013 (SPS) - The Trade Union Movement in Nigeria under the chairmanship of the Nigerian Labour Congress and in collaboration with civil society organizations and the General Union of Saharawi Workers (UGTSARIO), announced on Thursday the organization of an International Conference of Solidarity with the UGTSARIO in Abuja, capital of Nigeria, on 28, 29 and 30 October 2013.

 

In the conference, according to organizers, is expected the participation of delegations from various African trade unions, human rights organizations, the movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people and eminent Nigerian personalities.

 

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Abdelwahid Omaru during a reception of the Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic to Nigeria Abbi Bechraya , said that "the organization of the Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi workers in Nigeria, represents an expression, on behalf of all labor movements and peoples of Africa, of fidelity to the principles and values ​​in favor of the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination ".

 

It also stressed that the conference "is a clear signal to the international community that Africa will remain along with the Saharawi people and workers in their just struggle for freedom and dignity."

 

On his part, Ambassador of the SADR has expressed the hope that the conference would constitute "a historic event and an important addition to the promotion of international solidarity with the struggle of the Saharawi workers and strengthens the position of workers and peoples of Africa in support of the cause of the Saharawi people for the total eradication of colonialism in the continent. "

 

The meeting was attended by the leaders of the major unions in Nigeria and Wadad Mustafa, in charge of Mission at the Embassy of the SADR in Abuja. (SPS)
