UNHCR commemorates Refugees International Day in Sahrawi refugee camps

Boujdour  (Saharawi refugee camps), June 20, 2013 (SPS) - The UN High Commission for Refugees, has commemorated on Thursday in Boujdour, the Saharawi refugee camps, The Refugees International Day, Corresponding to June 20 of each year, in cooperation with the Sahrawi authorities.

 

The Commission, which oversaw the event, prepared a program included two solidarity matches in football and volleyball, between humanitarian organizations in the Sahrawi refugee camps. In addition to an opening speech by the Sahrawi authorities, and a visit to the management museum center and musical and theatrical activities performed by Sahrawi children.

 

The event also witnessed an intervention by the representative of the Sahrawi authorities, a member of the National Secretariat of Polisario and the Secretary-General of the Union of Sahrawi students, Ahmed Lahbib. He praise the efforts made by the UNHCR in the Sahrawi refugee camps.

 

The Sahrawi official called on UNHCR to double its aid to Sahrawi refugees to overcome the sufferings in these difficult circumstances.

 

the National Union of Sahrawi women has also allocated a program on this occasion included several activities, including a study on the experience of literacy, to identify the difficulties faced by adult education and the role of the authorities to raise awareness of this aspect in addition to meetings with grassroots women.
