Bir Lahlou, June 20, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, called upon the United Nations to intervene "urgently" to put an end to the practices of "repression and brutality" of the Moroccan occupation State against the Saharawi citizens in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in a letter sent Thursday to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.
President Mohamed Abdelaziz pointed out, in his letter to the UN Secretary-General that “Moroccan Occupation State has intensified acts of brutal repression against defenseless Sahrawi civilians, especially since the peaceful protest rallies in the city of Laayoune, the occupied capital of Wester, Sahara, on 4 May 2013.
Mohamed Abdel Aziz explained that the Moroccan occupation authorities launched a campaign of kidnappings against a group of young Sahrawis, solely based on their participation in the peaceful demonstration, after their homes was raided "in a manner governed bit by the law of illegal occupation."
He called for imposing all necessary pressure and sanctions on the Moroccan occupation state to release all Saharawi political prisoners and reveal the fate of all missing Sahrawis.
The president also called for “establishing a UN mechanism to ensure the protection, monitoring and reporting of human rights in Western Sahara, and the immediate abolishment of looting the natural wealth of the Sahrawi people by Morocco, and removing the crime against humanity represented by the Moroccan military separating wall.
He also called for the United Nations to bear the full responsibility to accelerate the decolonization of Western Sahara and to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their, inalienable, right to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
