Oran (Algeria)May 28, 2013 (SPS)- A caravan made up of 14 trucks loaded with 200 tons of dates set off Monday from the Dry Port of Oran (432 km west of Algiers) to the Sahrawi refugee camps, as part of the Saudi annual donation to the World Food Programme (WFP)

This caravan, the third of its kind, was launched by Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Algeria Salah El Ghadir and Cultural Attaché at the Embassy Ahmed Abdallah Al Frih, in the presence of WFP Deputy Representative to Algeria Francesca Caponera and representatives from the Algerian Red Crescent.

The caravan, which is part of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian aid to the World Food Programme, is meant to meet the food requirements of underprivileged populations, including Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia makes each year a donation of about 4,000 tons of dates to WFP, which in turn will hand them to Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, Mali and Mauritania.(SPS)
