Dortmund (Germany), May 13, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO) has refuted, in a statement issued Monday, the news promoted by Moroccan media claiming its withdrawal from the Council of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), took place on 8-9th May 2013 in Dortmund, Germany.
Some Moroccan newspapers that are belonging to political parties, including Al-Ittihad Al-Ichtiraki, Moroccan Arabic-language newspaper of the Party of Socialist Union of Popular Forces, had published a baseless news story on the topic.
The statement stated that Moroccan newspaper gave a unilateral translation to the final communiqué of the IUSY’s Council, noting that it has affirmed the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination in all its statements.
IUSY condemned the gross violations of human rights perpetuated by Morocco in the occupied Western Sahara.
The statement indicated that Moroccan youth unions used to promote some rumors in the international forums to substitute its failure by hiding its lies.
UJSARIO was represented at the Council by Dr. Brahim Ghali Abdelfatah, member of its Executive Bureau, and Senia Abderahman.
The Council was attended by more than 150 delegates from all continents.
It discussed issues of pressing importance such as global economic crisis, occupation and the violations of basic human rights.
IUSY, said the statement, had called on ITTIHAIDA Youth, from Morocco, to sign n agreement with UJTSARIO to find a peaceful, just, permanent and mutually-accepted solution that enables the self-determination of Western Sahara.
On the sidelines of the Council, UJTSARIO delegation held several meetings with delegates from Sweden, Belgium, Philippines, Palestine, Norway, Spain, Japan, Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile, Lebanon, Uganda, Switzerland and Cape Verde.
During these meetings, the Saharawi delegation discussed with his interlocutors the ways to strengthen support and solidarity with the struggle of Saharawi people.
At the end of the Council, IYSY decided to organize a study visit on September 2013 to both Saharawi refugee camps and occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
