Saharawi people pays last tribute to the late Khalil Sid Mhamed

Smara (refugee camps), April 29, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi people paid this morning, Monday, the last tribute to the late Khalil Sid Mhamed, head of POLISRIO Political Braches Secretariat, in a funeral procession took place at the cemetery of Smara, in the presence of a large crowd of citizens, political leadership and friends from Algeria.


The funeral ceremony was attended by hundreds of Saharawi citizens led by the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the POLISRIO Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, members of the Saharawi government, senior cadres in the state, representatives of Algerian civil and military authorities and representatives of the international organizations that works in the region.


After he was draped with the national flag and carried on the shoulders, a battalion of the Saharawi People’s National Army paid homage to him.


In the funeral oration speech, the Minister of Interior Mr. Hamada Salma recalled to qualities and virtues of the deceased, saying “he was among the first generation, who founded the POLISRIO Front forty years ago. Ever since, he had kept struggling and took leadership jobs at home and abroad. Indeed, his life was filled with all kinds of giving, sacrifice and generosity for the sake of lofty principles he believed in, ideals and values he embraced, which glorifies the right, virtue, people and the cause which he devoted all his life for.”


The passing away of Khalil Sid Mhamed, he added, is a great loss, because he was one of those who laid the foundations of national administration, and contributed to achieving social justice and setting up the political organization.


Khalil Sid Mhamed, head of POLISRIO political branches secretariat, passed away Saturday night of a sudden heart attack. (SPS)
