Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), April 28, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz emphasized the responsibility of the United Nations to ensure the protection and monitoring of human rights in Western Sahara, in a letter sent Saturday to the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon following Morocco’s repression of peaceful demonstration in Saharawi occupied territories.
“We stress the UN responsibility in ensuring the protection and monitoring of human rights in Western Sahara on a territory under its supervision, and thus to rapidly take all the necessary measures to enable the Sahrawi citizens of their fundamental rights to security, expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration, as to end to the brutal repressive practices carried out by Moroccan occupation state,” writes the President of the Republic to Mr. Ban Ki-moon.
President Mohamed Abdelaziz went on saying that human rights component should be part of UN task.
“Moroccan occupation state commits these gross violations of human rights on a land Moroccan Kingdom has no sovereignty over it, because Western Sahara is one of the countries that have not yet enjoyed the right of self-determination in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution 15/14. Thus it belongs to the United Nations, pending the speedy completion of the course of decolonization, and enabling its people, the Saharawi people, the only sovereign, of his right to self-determination and independence,” he added.
