Submitted on

Basque (Spain), April 27, 2013 (SPS) - The Basque National Party “Amaiur” has urged the government of Spain to support the just cause of the Saharawi people, in accordance with international legitimacy.

Reacting to statements of the Spanish foreign minister, Amaiur stressed that the Spanish government gives priority to geopolitical interests with Morocco to the detriment of the legitimate aspirations of the Saharawi people.

The Basque party categorically rejected the statements of Juan Manuel García Margallo, criticizing the silence of the Spanish state about the gross violations of human rights perpetrated by Morocco in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

It also expressed its strong support for the just struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, calling for respect of human rights in Western Sahara.

On the other hand, the municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón in Madrid announced its intention to help the Saharawi people in the Sahrawi refugee camps and liberated territories of SADR in several areas. (SPS)
