Algiers Declaration pleads for "immediate" holding of referendum in Western Sahara

Algiers,April24,2013(SPS) - Participants in the 3rd International Conference on "Women’s right to resistance: the Saharawi women case" called Sunday in Algiers, at the end of the conference proceedings, for the "immediate" holding of referendum in Western Sahara, emphasizing the need for "expanding" MINURSO  mandate to the compliance with Human Rights in this country.
 

"The conference appeals to the members of the UN Security Council and Secretary General for the expansion of MINURSO mandate to human rights protection and respect in Western Sahara and also calls for the immediate organization of a referendum free and without constraint, for the Saharawi people to freely choose their destiny, "said the final declaration sanctioning meeting attended by 410 participants from 45 countries.
 

The participants have also called on the presidents of the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the European Parliament "so to reconsider the relationship of Europe with Morocco in the light of the occupation of Western Sahara, internationally recognized illegal occupation."(SPS)
