Ban Ki-moon reiterates call for solution guaranteeing Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

New York, April09,2013(SPS) - United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has reiterated Tuesday call for "just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution that will guarantee the right of the people of Western Sahara to Self-determination," and insisted on the "urgent need for independent, impartial, comprehensive and sound monitoring of human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara."
 

In his new report on Western Sahara, which will be presented to Security Council later in this month, UN chief underlined that some obstacles continue to impede progress towards just, long-lasting and mutually acceptable solution that guarantees the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination.
 

Ban ki-Moon also warned that "the rise of instability and insecurity in and around the Sahel requires an urgent settlement of this long-standing conflict.
 

In this regard, he urged the parties to the conflict (Polisario Front and Morocco) to "engage in genuine negotiations with the assistance of his personal envoy (Christopher Ross)."(SPS)
