Ambassador Laman Baali presents his credentials as SADR permanent representative to AU

Addis Ababa, April 6, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi Ambassador in Ethiopia Mr. Laman Baali presented Friday evening his credentials to H.E. Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of AU Commission, as a permanent representative of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic to the African Union.


During the event, Ms. Dlamini-Zuma confirmed AU’s support to the right of Saharawi people to freedom and independence, reaffirming determination of the African Union Commission and Africa as a whole to move forward in the implementation of its resolutions on Western Sahara.


She also expressed continuation to cooperate with the United Nations to complete the sovereignty of SADR over its entire national territory, and thus for the final decolonization of African continent.


From his part, SADR ambassador expressed gratitude for the role played by African Union and Africa in general in supporting SADR sovereignty, valuing the AU’s constant defense of need for the decolonization of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, through the activation of the decisions taken by the 20th summit of AU Heads of State and Government.


Mr. Baali informed the AU Commission Chairperson about the latest developments in Western Sahara, including the visit of UN Personal Envoy Mr. Christopher Ross to Western Sahara and the Moroccan human violations that accompanied the visit,
He, in this respect, pointed out to the harassment and oppression carried out by the Moroccan occupation apparatus against Saharawi women in front of the eyes of Mr. Ross and in the presence of MINURSO stuff.


The event was attended by a number of commissioners for the African Union.
SADR Ambassador was accompanied by Baba Al-Bardi, First Secretary and Vice-President of Saharawi Diplomatic Mission to Ethiopia and the AU, Mariam Muhamadu, Second Secretary, and Mohamed Mohamed Ismael, Cultural and Media Attaché. (SPS)
