President of Republic receives Christopher Ross

Shahid Alhafed (Saharawi refugee camps) March 27, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic , Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz on Tuesday evening received at the Presidency the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy to Western Sahara Mr. Christopher Ross, at the end of two -day visit to the Saharawi Refugee Camps.  
 

The meeting was attended by Members of the Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front while attended from the UN the delegation accompanying Mr. Ross.
 

After the discussion, the Saharawi Coordinator with the MINURSO, M’hamed  Khadad ,said that the conversations between President and Ross, focused on the next steps that the personal envoy wants to take in framework of his efforts to decolonization in Western Sahara on bases of the Saharawi People’s right to self-determination.
 

Khadad pointed out that President Mohamed Abdelaziz, confirmed to Ross the continuation of the Polisario Front to cooperate   with efforts of the United Nations to enable the Saharawi People to self-determination.
 

He stressed that the status quo is unacceptable and the situation of impasse affects credibility of the Security Council and the United Nations and it is “unacceptable” that the United Nations remains silent about flagrant violations of human rights in Western Sahara including unfair Moroccan military court which has sentenced harsh verdicts against the Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik.
 

“President Mohamed Abdelaziz emphasized that the United Nations should assume its responsibilities in establish mechanism to protect human rights in Western Sahara” said M’hamed Khadad in his statement to the media.
 

Khadad said that Christopher Ross indicated that the permanent Members of the Security Council are convinced of the need to expedite a solution to Western Sahara conflict. (SPS)
