Western Sahara: Algeria’s position stems from its principles of defending just causes

Submitted on

Algiers, March19,2013(SPS)- Speaker of the Algerian  People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Larbi Ould Khelifa said Sunday that “Algeria doesn’t have any problems with Morocco,” and that its position on the issue of Western Sahara “stems from its principles of defending just causes.”

Ould Khelifa, who received at the headquarters of People’s National Assembly the “Independence Caravan” made up of 70 young Algerians settled in France, upon their return from Sahrawi refugee camps, underlined that “Algeria will always defend just causes, including the Sahrawi cause.”

Reaffirming Algeria’s “stable and clear” position on the Sahrawi issue, Ould Khelifa added that Algeria didn’t have any intentions towards Western Sahara, while calling on the young nationals to keep the umbilical cords with Algeria.

The young nationals, who visited the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf on Thursday, condemned “the repression and the inhuman practices” perpetrated against the Sahrawi people “whose only crime has been to claim their right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.”

They also organized a demonstration before the “wall of shame” which separates the Sahrawi territories. (SPS)
