Madrid, Feb 22, 2013 (SPS) - The Italian Communist Refoundation Party has condemned the sentenced issued last Sunday by Moroccan martial court of Rabat against the Saharawi activists, while Spain witnessed a wave of condemnation to this trial.

In a statement published Friday in Rome, the Head of the Party’s External Relations Mr. Fabio Amato described the trial as a “farce”, adding that the verdict was “another violation of human rights.”

He, therefore, considered that trial is “unfair and unacceptable.”

Mr. Amato called, in the name of his party, the Italian government as well as European and international bodies “not to remain silent and complicit in this farce and to intervene for the immediate release of the Saharawi political prisoners and for annulment of judgments against them.”

On relevant context, several demonstrations organized Thursday in various Spanish cities, including Madrid, Las Palmas, Seville, Bilbao, Cordoba, Malaga, Huelva, Almeria, Jaén and Murcia, to denounce the sentences against Gdeim Izik group and against Moroccan policy in Western Sahara.

A group of friends of the Saharawi people, POLISARIO officials and members of the Saharawi community in Spain gathered outside headquarters of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The demonstration was also attended by the European MP Willy Meyer, Head of Forein Policy in the United Left Mr. Francisco Jose, President of the Spanish Association for Human Rights Mr. Odon Elorza, former Sam Sebastian Mayor and President of General Coordination of Friendship Associations Mr. Jose Toboada Valdes.
