Paris, Feb 08, 2012 (SPS)- The European Parliament (EP) expressed, once again, its concern about human rights’ violation in Western Sahara and reaffirmed its support to Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination, which represents, according to the Representative of the Polisario Front in Europe Mohamed Sidati, a "strong signal" to the international community.

For the Saharawi minister delegate for Europe and Member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, the resolution "reaffirms the positions of the great European Assembly on its commitment to the respect and enforcement of international law, including the rejection of the Moroccan policy of occupation and repression".

"This is a strong signal to the entire community, including the UN Security Council , and comes at a time when the Moroccan authorities hold illegal and unfair trial against  24 Saharawi political prisoners before a military court, " he said Friday to   Algerian Pres Service (APS).

for Sahrawi responsible, this position of the European Parliament must be read as a "message of condemnation and disapproval of the Moroccan government's repressive drift in Western Sahara."

The EP resolution adopted Thursday night, was taken within the framework of the 22nd Session of the Council of Human Rights of the United Nations.

MEPs expressed concern over the systemic violations of human rights in occupied Western Sahara, calling for protecting the fundamental rights of the Saharawis including freedom of expression and association.

EP resolution emphasized the need for international follow-up to the human rights in Western Sahara.

it reaffirmed support for "the right of self-determination of the Saharawi people, which must be decided by a democratic referendum in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.”
