French elected officials call for "immediate" release of Saharawi political prisoners

Paris, Feb 8, 2012 (SPS) - French elected representatives and intellectuals of African origin supporting the Saharawi issue called, from Paris, for the "immediate" and "unconditional" release of the 24 Sahrawi political prisoners who will appear Friday before a military court in Rabat.

"We call for the quashing of this inquisitive trial," said the network in a statement unanimously adopted by his members after a special session held Thursday evening in Paris.

The network called for "their immediate unconditional release" of the political prisoners, rejecting that "civilian, human rights activists" be tried by a military court.

For the French elected representatives of African origin, it is "unacceptable" to hold a trial of "people publically clailing their right to self-determination," and that it is time that the international community shows support to them and "denounces such unfair trial."

"We condemn the trial which will be held on Friday, because it is really unfair to try freedom-loving people. It is unacceptable," the official of the French elected members of African origin in France Amadou Traore told the Algerian News Agency (SPS)
