Copenhagen (Denmark) January 30, 2013- Member of the National Secretariat of the POLISARIO Front and Coordinator of the (MINURSO), Mr. Mhamed Khaddad,said that “Signing a new EU- Morocco Fisheries agreement that includes occupied Western Sahara will be flagrant violation of international law”
“Signing of new EU- Morocco Fisheries agreement, that includes the waters of the illegally occupied Western Sahara besides that it will be flagrant violation of international law, encourages Morocco to commit more human rights violations in Western Sahara, prolongs the conflict, antagonizes the Saharawi people, undermines the UN mediation efforts in the conflict and it will certainly send a wrong signal to Morocco.”
Mr. Mhamed Khaddad visited Denmark from January 28th, to 30th, 2013,where he received by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament, representatives of political parties, the Danish Institute of International Studies (DIIS), various organizations and the Danish Media.
He indicated that it is time for the European Union to take more concrete action to help ensure a peaceful solution to the issue of occupied Western Sahara, saying that “Morocco’s systematic violations of human rights committed against the Saharawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara are not acceptable.”
On the other hand Mhamed Khadda, stressed that the Moroccan state's decision to bring 23 Saharawi human rights activists before a military tribunal, commencing on February 1st, is a violation of international law.
The Saharawi official therefore insisted that is urgent for the enlarging of the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to monitor and report about the critical human rights abuses in occupied Western Sahara.
