Submitted on

Copenhagen (Denmark) January9, 2013(SPS) the Danish Member of the European Parliament Mr. Soren sondergaard, has called on Denmark to recognize Western Sahara as independent state, according to press release issued on Tuesday by Mr. Soren.

Soren Sondergaard calls on Denmark to follow the Swedish Parliament and recognize an independent Western Sahara.

Sondergaard, Member of the European Parliament for the Popular Movement, has just returned from a study tour to the Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara.

The reason for the visit was that the Swedish Parliament on 5 December 2012 decided that Sweden should recognize "the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara) as a free and independent state" he said ,adding  that the European Commission and Morocco is in the process of finalizing a new fisheries agreement.

The Moroccan regime does not allow the people of Western Sahara to organize themselves and therefore were Sondergaard and the three other members of the delegation closely monitored by the Moroccan security police during the visit.(SPS)
