Fourth SADR Cultural Week in Tindouf kicks off

Tindouf (Algeria), Dec 17, 2012 (SPS) - The 4th edition of the annual cultural week of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) in Tindouf, Algeria, kicked off Sunday under the theme “renewal of solidarity and a hug for deep-rooted Saharawi culture”, held from 16th to 19th December 2012.


In his opening speech, the Governor of Tindouf Mr. Chater Abdelhakim welcomed, on behalf of Tindouf’s people and authorities, the participants at the 4th edition of SADR Cultural Week, annually held in Tindouf.


From her part, the Saharawi Minister of Culture Ms. Khadija Hamdi expressed thanks to the Algerian state for organizing this Festival, expressing also recognition and appreciation of the Saharawi people for the historic role has always been played by Algeria, in all fields including culture.


“The Saharawi people wages a fierce cultural war against the continued attempts by the Moroccan enemy aimed at deform and smear customs and traditions of the Saharawi community. They (Saharawis) wage a fierce war to recover their right to freedom and independence,” said the Minister.


Mr. Ztili Mohamed, who represents the Algerian Minister of Culture, expressed “full and unconditional solidarity” of the Algerian Ministry of Culture with her Saharawi counterpart and the Saharawi people in general in their struggle for freedom and independence.


“The right of peoples to self-determination derives its strength from the power of cultural identity. Moreover, this festival is a form of Algeria’s support, people and the government, to the just struggle of the Saharawi people for independence,” said the representative of Algerian Minister of Culture.


The cultural event will be marked by several festivities including lectures, screening of documentaries and concerts. (SPS)
