Mexico City, Dec 3, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has declared “the only solution to the Western Sahara conflict lies in the organization of a referendum to enable the Saharawi people to freely choose their destiny,” in a statement to the Mexican newspaper “Milenio”.

The President denounced the lack of political will on the part of Morocco regarding the implementation of UN resolutions and its rejection to any peaceful solution based on the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people.

“We have declared and stated clearly that we accept the results of the referendum and we will be in the order if the Saharawi people choose this,” said the President Mohamed Abdelaziz.

In this regard, the President reiterated the commitment of the Polisario Front to cooperate fully with the UN and its SG Ban Ki Moon for the implementation of all UN resolutions calling for a referendum on self-determination, “This is what we have recently expressed to the Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, who just finished his tour in the region,” he said.

The Saharawi President expressed the concern of SADR government over the brutal repression and serious human rights violations perpetrated by Morocco in the occupied territories, condemning the state of siege imposed by Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara as well as the plundering of Saharawi natural resources.

President Mohamed Abdelaziz appealed to the international community to establish a UN mechanism for the protection and monitoring of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

“All the resolutions adopted by the UN so far converge on a single solution; the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, a right has been confirmed by the International Court of Justice in 1975,” underlined Secretary General of POLISARIO Front.

He also indicated that the only way to launch the negotiations is “through the respect by Morocco to its international commitments and international law, as well as the cooperation with the international organizations (such as; United Nations and African Union) to achieve the only legitimate solution to the Western Sahara conflict, namely a transparent, equitable and democratic referendum, sponsored by the United Nations and supported by the international community.” (SPS)
