Abuja, Oct 14, 2012 (SPS) - The Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. Oubi Bachraya Bashir, has considered Nigeria’s intervention during work of the UN Decolonization Committee, currently underway in New York, “strong expression” of its principled position with side of struggle of the Saharawi people.
“This intervention is a strong emphasis by Nigeria on its principled supporting position to the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence. At the same time, it is a dedication to the founding principles of Nigeria’s foreign policy since its independence in 1960, known for supporting the liberation issues in the world as a whole and in Africa in particular,” Mr. Oubi Bashir told Saturday Voice of Nigeria.
The Saharawi Diplomat underlined that the position of Nigeria stems from a “solid belief in Africa’s values and in the history of its people who had experienced colonialism and oppression for decades.”
On other hand, he recalled to the waves of repression and violation of the rights of Saharawi civilians carried out by Moroccan occupation, which have been condemned and denounced by major international human rights organizations, most of which recently was the report of RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights and communiqué of the African Commission on Human Peoples’ Rights.
