Algiers, October 8, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the POLISARIO Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, attended Monday the funeral of the former Algerian President Chadli Benjdid, who died Saturday at the age of 83 following a long illness.
The President Mohamed Abdelaziz paid today morning at the People’s Palace in Algiers the last tribute to memory of the deceased Chadli, third President of independent Algeria.
In a statement to the press, President Mohamed Abdelaziz said “I am here, along with the delegation accompanying me, to extend condolences of the Saharawi people to their brotherly Algerians on the death of one of the greatest men of November 1st Revolution,”
“Chadli was one of the sons of Algeria who had served his country faithfully during the struggle for independence and the battle for construction of Algeria,” Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz told the press.
He also hailed the principles that inspired the former president of the Popular Democratic Republic of Algeria.
At the end of the funeral ceremony, the President of the Republic signed, on behalf of the people and government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, the condolences register.
The President of the Republic is accompanied by high-level delegation consisted of the Minister of State Mr. Bachir Mustapha Sayad, Advisor to the Presidency Mr. Mohamed Lamin Ahmed, Coordinator with the MINURSO Mr. Mhamed Khaddad and Ambassador in Algeria Mr. Brahim Ghali. (SPS)
