El Aaiun (refugee camps), August 27, 2012 (SPS) - The RFK Centre delegation, who are visiting the Saharawi occupied territories, held Sunday one hour and half talks with staff of the UN Mission for the Referensum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) in occupied El Aaiun, focusing on role of the Mission in the Saharawi occupied terriotries and how the Saharawi masses interact with it.
On other hand, they met representatives of several Saharawi human rights organizations, where they listened to testimonies about the gross violations of human rights committed by Moroccan state against the Saharawi citizens.
In this regard, they met with President of Western Sahara Organization against Torture El Mami Amar Salem, who spoke about Dakhla’s events, where Moroccan militias attacked on 25-27 September 2011 Saharawi civilians using stones and batons.
The Saharawi activist recalled to the group of the Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in Black jail, who are in a hunger strike and face tragic and miserable conditions, underlying that they have been imprisoned for the human rights action and their opinions supporting right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
Moreover, the delegation held meeting with members of the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State, where they listened to testimonies about the abuses of Saharawis’ human rights, expressing condemnation to prevent the Saharawi people of their fundamental political, economic, cultural and social rights.
They also met with workers of Fous Boukraa, victims of the enforced disappearances, certified unemployed and disabled, who spoke out of their suffering under Moroccan occupation, including the continued harassments and arbitrary arrests.
The delegation RFK Centre expected to set foot Wednesday in the Saharawi refugee camps to “assess the situation of human rights on the ground and the work of the UN Mission operating in the region since 1991,” underlined Ms. Kerry Kennedy, President of RFK Centre, in statements before the visit.
