Saharawi Republic present at funeral of late president of Ghana

Accra, August 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi President, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, took part Friday in the state funeral of former Ghanaian President John Atta Mills, who died suddenly on July 24, along with several heads of states and government as well as other foreign dignitaries and diplomatic corps accredited in Accra.


“This was an opportunity to pay tribute, on behalf of the Saharawi people, to this great leader, known for his positions in favor of freedom, democracy and self-determination of peoples,” the Minister of Cooperation and member of the presidential delegation, Mr. Haj Ahmed Barikala, told SPS.


The presence of the President Mohamed Abdelaziz accompanied by a large delegation at the funeral of the late president of Ghana “reflect the deep relations that unite Ghana and the SADR,” said the Minister, adding that “SADR continues to be present at the political and diplomatic level in Africa.


The President of the Republic arrived Thursday in Accra on, invited by Ghana’s new President, Mr. John Mahama Dramani, to attend the state funeral of the former Ghanaian president John Atta Mills.


He was accompanied by a high-level delegation composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, State Minister, Mr. Bachir Mostafa Sayed, Secretary General of the National Union of Women, Ms. Fatma Lmehdi, Minister of Cooperation, Mr. Hadj Ahmed Barikala, Minister of Africa, Mr. Brahim Mukhtar Boumakhruta, and Counselor to the Presidency, Mr. Abdati Breika.
