Council of Ministers condemns obstruction of international efforts for decolonization of Western Sahara

Shahid Alhafed, August2, 2012(SPS) the Council of Ministers has condemned the intransigence and rejection of Morocco to cooper with the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy to complete decolonization of Western Sahara, as reflected through the last speech of the Moroccan king, a press release said after the conclusion of the council’s meeting held on Wednesday under chairperson of President Mohamed Abdel Aziz.
 

The Council urged international community for urgent intervention to protect defenseless Saharawi citizens, emphasizing on the need of movement of the Security Council to enable the MINURSO, as an international mission, in accelerating the organization of referendum of the Saharawi people and in protecting and monitoring human rights in the Western Sahara.
 

The Council denounced the escalation of violations of human rights by Morocco against the Saharawis, demanding the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails and the whereabouts of 651 Saharawi disappearances to Moroccan state since its illegal occupation of Western Sahara1975.
 

The Council expressed regret about the Spanish Government’s position of repatriation of its aid workers from Saharawi refugee camps, confirming that the “best way to face terrorism is by coordination and cooperation not by fall into traps of terrorists and enemies of the Saharawi People”
 

The Council of Ministers finally renewed the “determination of the Government and the Saharawi people to face terrorism and  to  guarantee the  security and safety of all friends and guests  of the Saharawi People. (SPS)
