Tuscany (Italy), June 16, 2012 (SPS) - President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, drew Saturday attention of participants of Florence international conference on Saharawi human rights to the threats and risks of repression and terrorism committed by Moroccan state against the Saharawi people, in denial to their right of self-determination, in his speech at the opening of the Conference.
“Saharawi people face many challenges, including circumstances of the fierce repression in the occupied territories, exile and survival in refugee camps due to the annexation of our country by Morocco, in addition to the difficulties caused by the lack of humanitarian aid, or even the threat of terrorism which was illustrated on the abduction of European co-operators in the Sahrawi refugee camps,” said President Mohamed Abdelaziz.
Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz expressed Polisario Front and SADR Government’s condemnation to such criminal act, expressing solidarity with the victims including the Italian Rossella URU and the two Spaniards, Enrique Fernandez and Enoa Gonialons and their families.
“Moreover, we recall that Morocco is the largest producer of cannabis worldwide and warn against its increasing role in the production and marketing of this poison that are likely to encourage organized crime and terrorism in the region,” added the Saharawi President, renewing determination of the Sahrawi Government to make every effort, in collaboration with the countries concerned, for the prompt release of the hostages.”
He confirmed that Moroccan Government uses the procrastination and manoeuvring in an attempt to impose the de facto as to confiscate will of the Saharawi people, highlighting in this regard its recent position from the Personal Envoy of UN Secretary General, Christopher Ross, which demonstrates that Morocco’s problem “is with the law, international legitimacy and thus with the international community as a whole.”
Saharawi president noted that such irresponsible behaviour is “a reckless and disregard to the international community,” and reaches the extent of declaring a war on the commendable and continued efforts for the decolonization of the last colony in Africa, and thus requires a firm and urgent response from the international community.
SADR President welcomed the positions expressed at the level of European Parliament in favour of the just cause of Saharawi people; recording in the same context the absence of an European effective role in line with the founding principles of the European Union.
He also indicated that it is “an unreasonable and illogical to make a balance between the victim and the executioner in the Western Sahara conflict, which is an issue of decolonization, defend by the Polisario Front in the face of an occupation wants to rape the victim.”
“It is an unfair for the international community place the parties to the conflict, the oppressor and oppressed, on the same equality footing, because Moroccan Government perpetrates an illegal occupation, whilst the Polisario Front, sole and legitimate representative of the victim, only demand the prompt and full application of the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations,” underlined the President Mohamd Abdelaziz.
He therefore called on international community to intervene for the release of Yahia Mohamed Hafed Izaa and all the Saharawi political prisoners, unveiling the fate of more than 651 Saharawis missing, as well as to establishment of UN mechanism enables the MINURSO to carry out its primary function, in the conduct of a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people and also the protection, monitoring and report about human rights in occupied Western Sahara.
Secretary General of the Frente Polisario finally called on the states and organizations to recognize the Saharawi Republic, which embodies the will and free Saharawi popular choice, adding this constitutes a concrete step to meet the intransigence of Moroccan government and encouragement to an excellent experience in the region, based on the construction of a modern society on basis of justice, democracy, gender equality and the coexistence among religions, cultures and civilizations.” (SPS)
